I'm giving thanks

As I jogged along the streets in the Uniontown Salvation Army's "Turkey Trot" this morning, I could not help but think of what this holiday means. Although the world around us may be turbulent and unsettled, it is important to take stock and give thanks. I have so much to be thankful for. I look at the New York skyline and am awestricken by my city. I come to Uniontown and am proud that I was able to grow up in a town that is a working class, Patriotic place where its residents know how blessed we are to be Americans. I look at my family, my friends, my elders, and I am amazed at their unconditional love and support. They are such a blessing to me.
This year in particular, I am thankful for my healthy family. I'm thankful that during a time when I was without steady work, I was able to learn more and hone my journalism skills. I was able to use my two legs to run a marathon and I was able to use my voice to sing my heart out with my first cabaret performance. Life is such a gift that I've grown to appreciate and on this day I am so very thankful.
As we sit together at our Thanksgiving tables, let's say a prayer of thanks for those who came before us and let's raise our glasses to the men and women at home and abroad who fight to protect us.

With love and thanks,

NYC Marathon Training

(Pictured, me, after completing the Queens Half Marathon)

Faithful bytes followers, I am sorry.  You're blogger has been busy training for the NYC Marathon which is five short days away.  So I must give a heartfelt apology for my lack of material over the past several weeks.  Come November 2nd, all will be better and your aspiring digital journalist will be back at work.
I am going to attempt to carry my newest gadget, the flip cam, along with me for 26.2 miles and put together a short piece on what I hope will be a memorable day.  (thanks Papa!)

A shout out to Mere who is also running the race.....proud of you sis.
If you are in the big apple, why not look out for bib # 56171 (me!).  I'll be sharing some "bytes" from the five borough rush next Monday.

Last Day of my digital journalism course

Today was the last day of an eight week program in digital journalism at the New York Film Academy.   It was tough to be a student again, but truly rewarding.  The class was a phenomenal learning experience for me and I cannot believe it has come to an end.  For the first time in my post college life, I woke up everyday excited about what I would learn and do at school!  I gained practical experience and feel more empowered about my decision to continue on the path to becoming a journalist.

I will soon be investing in my own equipment so that I can continue to tell stories.

More posts to come.....

Thank you for watching and reading.
